CIVIL ENGINEERING

 

Introduction

 

The Department of Civil Engineering offers undergraduate degree. the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (B.C.E.). The civil engineering major offers a broad-based engineering curriculum with opportunities to take elective courses in environmental engineering, geomechanics, structures, transportation, and water resources.

 

The Department of Civil Engineering has the following educational objectives for our graduates:

  1. practice technical proficiency and adaptability, and participate in life-long learning to meet the challenges facing the profession in civil engineering industries, government agencies, academia, or other careers;
  2. exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and management skills as leaders and team members in their profession; and
  3. realize their role as ethical professionals that protect and sustain human health, welfare, and the environment.

 

 

Training programs

 

  Our Department of Civil Engineering offers the following training programs:

 

  • Students of Building Technology are introduced to conventional building construction technology, masonry, forming technology, wooden and metal technology, building structural elements, foundation, and earth works. Within their specialization, students will learn fundamental aspects of building construction technology and develop technical expertise about the construction, management, maintenance and repair of building systems. Other major topics are quality control, structural analysis with software application, advanced concrete design, geotechnical and construction materials testing, combined forming and concrete production. During the last semester, each trainee will plan and conduct a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

  

  • Students of Bridge Construction are taught subjects like concrete and steel design, technical drawing CAD, structural analysis, fluidmechanic, transportation, and foundation design. Within their specialization, students will learn fundamental aspects of bending element and deflextion conditioning and develop technical expertise about the function, application and preventive maintenance& repair of bridge systems. Other major topics are hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, performance inspection and redesign, advanced scoure conditioning system (re-) design and combined joining and trafic control system. During the last semester, each trainee will plan and conduct a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

  

  • Students of Road Construction are taught subjects like betumen technology, material science, machine elements in motor vehicles, dynamics and static compaction, usage of engines, survey, geometry systems and all comfort and safety systems like steering, suspension, brake and climate control systems. The students will learn basics and in detail how the systems work together through an On-Board-Data Bus system. On all systems the students will develop experience in diagnosing according given maintenance procedures from genuine automotive monitoring. During the later semesters, each student will bring in their technical expertise and experience in an road engineering project as a team. With the Bachelor project in a relevant field  and information about alternative and new developments in the automotive world the students will finish an ambitious and innovative study program on newest technology and standards.

  

Characteristics of the training programs

 

Whether it is roads, bridges, skyscrapers, dams, water supply systems, pollution control, airports, railroads, or other key elements or our modern infrastructure, civil engineers play a key role in developing and maintaining these systems. The complexity of these systems requires innovative engineers who are capable of applying the best and newest technology to the ever increasing needs of a modern society.
